- How did you become a writer, and do you have any tips?
- I became a writer by accident. I just write to occupy my mind when I am unable to do anything else! I started working on this book years ago, but nothing had ever come of it.
Last year (2005), an email I had from Mark Jones inspired me to enter my work into the Undiscovered Authors competition. My entry was submitted just before the deadline. The rest, as they say, is history.
I don't think I could pass on any tips, as I am a merely a novice! Basically, if you enjoy writing, write.
- Are the characters in your novel based on real people?
- No, although perhaps some of my friends and family may think they are based on them! Saying that, often real people or situations will trigger something deep down in my over-active imagination, and give me an idea. I keep telling my family: it's fiction, not a biography!
- Who are your favourite authors, and what are your favourite books?
- I love books that provide an escape from reality, and enjoy anything with a comic element. I adore the Shopaholic series of books by Sophie Kinsella (and anything she writes under that name); Maryjanice Davidson's Undead series (Betsy and Sinclair are fantastic characters); anything by Pauline McLynn, but primarily the books featuring Leo Street; all of Jane Green's novels. Basically, any feel-good chick-lit!
I am also a huge fan of such TV shows as Angel, Bones, Buffy and Charmed so like to read the tie-in books. I also enjoy reading biographies.
- Are you working on anything new?
- There are two women's fiction novels, which I have been hoping to complete for a long time, and a novel based on a true story. These very much depend on the success of Karma.
